There is a well developed network of trails throughout the Himalayas. Lodgings (called teahouses) are conveniently spaced along the way. Provisions must be carried by mules or on the backs of porters. High altitude villages have markets that provide most of the necessities for daily life. We met trekkers from all parts of the world staying in teahouses and it was easy to establish a camaraderie even without being able to speak each other's language. We had an especially enjoyable “discussion” about Tibet with Simon from communist China.
