The Black Sheep Inn was our base for trekking in the Andes. It is an eco-lodge at 10,000 feet elevation in the village of Chugchillan. It was built by an American couple who discovered the area 20 years ago while backpacking around South America. The building was constructed from hand-made clay bricks. Meals are gourmet, home-grown vegetarian. Electricity is generated by solar panels. All waste is composted, including from toilets. Rain water is captured and even urine is used for watering plants. They hire only local residents to staff the lodge.
