GRACE Nanana (Girls Rescue, Attention, Care, & Education) is a safe haven where Maasai girls can escape the illegal but still practiced customs of early forced marriage, female genital mutilation, and unwanted pregnancy. The centre started in 1986 when a retired teacher, herself a Maasai woman, took 3 girls into her home. It now houses more than 100 girls in two dormitories and over the years has rescued more than 700 girls, providing them with meals, clothing, shelter, primary education, healthcare and counselling.
