This gallery contains images of central Kathmandu and the surrounding communities of Patan, Pashupatinath, and Swayambunath. The archaic infrastructure and outmoded methods of construction can be seen. Buildings are erected with hand-operated equipment. Women do the heavy work of carrying loads of gravel for construction projects and bring their children to work. Men and women use old treadle sewing machines to make clothing. People bathe and wash clothes at a community water supply. Sacred cows have right of way in all streets. A series of photos show public cremation ceremonies where ashes of bodies are pushed into the water to flow to the sacred Ganges in India.
