Oct., 2018- Portugal was a convenient stop on our way home from Morocco so we opted to spend a few days in the picturesque town of Sintra. Built on a granite mountain, Sintra is known for 19th-century Romanticist architecture, historic estates & villas, gardens, and numerous royal palaces and castles. It was the summer residence of Portuguese nobility and a popular destination for Europe’s wealthy artisans and elite. Prominent features are the ruins of the medieval Castle of the Moors and the multi-colored Pena Palace which dominate the top of the mountain.
