Hell’s Gate National park is a small park not far from Nairobi. It is popular for its variety of wildlife including 103 bird species. Numerous activities are allowed such as hiking, bicycling, motorcycling, and mountain climbing. Geothermal power is generated from the area's hot springs and geysers. The setting of the 1994 film, The Lion King, is modeled after the park and the 2003 film Lara Croft:Tomb Raider was shot on location here in Hell’s Gate Gorge. Our visit to the park included a lunch stop at the former home of Joy Adamson, author of Born Free and Living Free.
