Our base for trekking in the High Atlas Mts. was Kasbah du Tubkal. To get there required driving up a narrow mountain road to its end, and then hiking through small Berber villages past their colorful goods on display. Along the way we stopped for tea at Richard Branson’s Moroccan getaway.
The trekking was steep, rough, and difficult. Trails are not marked but the Kasbah provided a guide with luxury service. After hiking for about 3 hours from the lodge the first day, we came to a lunch spot on a saddle at about 6500’. Cooks had arrived ahead of us and prepared a full course meal.
