June, 2014- The Danube River travels about 1800 miles from its source in Germany down to the Black Sea, crossing half of Europe. A dedicated bicycle path runs beside the river, away from traffic and relatively flat. For this first cycling trip in Europe we rode a 186 mile section between Passau, Germany to Vienna, past the vineyards of the Wachau valley and through forested woodlands. There were numerous stops along the way for refreshments, very welcome in the 90 degree heat.
