Angkor Wat in the Khmer language means “Capital of Temples”. It is one of a complex of temples in the 400-acre Angkor Wat Archeological Park, the largest religious monument in the world. Originally built early in the 12th century as a Hindu temple and gradually transformed into a Buddhist temple, it is the best preserved temple at the site and continues as a significant religious center to this day.
